Give your skin that added boost of care in needs during lockdown with these homemade masks to keep it on track.

Skin texture and tone

You will need:
  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon of natural, Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder*

*Note: Turmeric powder has a very bright yellow/orange pigment and using this mask will leave a light to medium yellow stain on your skin after removal. Don't be alarmed it will fade over the course of the day. If you have pale skin, it may take longer to fade. If you are at all concerned about this, please reduce the amount of turmeric to 1 teaspoon. 

Mix the ingredients and apply. Put your feet up and relax for 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water and damp cloth.

The yogurt contains lactic acid, which is great to step up the cell renewal process, while the honey is very hydrating for the skin. Turmeric in turn adds more than just colour, it helps with pigmentation.


Hydration

With the changing seasons and cooler weather, our skins need a hydrating boost.

You will need:
  • ½ avocado or use 3 tablespoons of milk as an alternative
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • A handful of oats

Before you make a delicious breakfast from these ingredients, mix them together and apply on the facial area for 15 minutes. Remove with a damp and warm cloth.

Top tip: Masks can also be applied on the neck and chest area as these are also exposed to the external environment.


Spot treatment or acne

You will need:
  • 3 tablespoons turmeric powder
  • Water
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice

Mix the turmeric powder with water and lemon juice until it forms a thick paste. Apply it on your spots or all over the face if you have acne. Keep on for 5 minutes and then rinse it off.

Turmeric is a great anti-inflammatory and helps to calm the acne, while the acid in the lemon juice gets rid of excess oil.


Oily skin

You will need:
  • ½ cup cooked oatmeal (and cooled down)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

The egg whites will help to tighten the pores and remove excess oil on the skin while the egg yolk will deliver fatty acids to the skin. The oatmeal is a great soothing agent and will help to calm down any redness while the lemon juice will also contribute to removing excess oils.

Mix all the ingredients together and leave on for 5-10 minutes. Remove with warm water and a damp cloth and moisturise as normal after.
